Extensive work is continuing on service identification and relocation which involves gas, water, telecommunications and electricity. It is anticipated this phase of the project will be completed by the end of March.

    What is happening?

The carpark next to the businesses has been reinstated after trenching works to install water mains. The lane way to the rear of the businesses has also been reopened. The carpark to the front of the shops will close when water main works commence. As the water main works progress, there will be impact to Mitre Street and traffic flow through the intersection.

Changes to traffic, bus zones, school drop off zones and parking in the Mitre Suttor Lambert St intersection remain in place and will continue as the work progresses. Please follow the directions of traffic control staff on site and be aware of changes to parking in the area. Council is asking that motorists allow for possible delays when travelling through the intersection and allow additional time for school pick up and drop offs.

The project will take up to 9 months to complete and any wet weather may push back the completion date.

Contractors have been on site at the Mitre Suttor Lambert Street roundabout since Monday 20 January 2020 and median strips in both Suttor and Mitre Streets have been removed. Temporary pavement works have been completed to allow for traffic to be redirected around works as they progress.

The construction of the roundabout is a complicated project with the large number of underground services (water, power, gas, telecommunications) in the area. The service relocation works are complex and have required substantial planning and confirmation on site before physical works started to ensure the risk of damaging any of these services is mitigated.

The next stage of work is the watermain relocation. This will be done in stages, along with trenching and reinstatement works as other utilities are also relocated.

On completion of service relocation works, pavement works will commence on the new tennis court carpark, the Suttor Street approach and the northern side of Mitre Street.

As these works are undertaken, access to the carpark next to the shops will be restricted. The carpark next to the Scout Hall will remain open for use.

The local shops will be open throughout the works. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.

Council is asking that motorists allow for possible delays when travelling through the intersection. There will be changes to traffic, parking, school drop off and bus zones. The intersection will be under traffic control and the speed limit will be reduced to 40km per hour.

For those returning back to school, particularly at Assumption, it is important to take notice of the changes to parking areas and to allow for additional time for the school drop off and pick up while the works continue.

The project will take up to 9 months to complete and any wet weather may push back the completion date.

The median islands on Suttor Street will start to be removed from Monday, 20 January.

This will involve the total closure of the entrance of Coral Way near Suttor Street. All traffic to and from Coral Way and adjoining streets will need to detour via Mitre and Esrom Streets.

The Suttor, Mitre and Lambert Street intersection will remain open under traffic control, how-ever delays are to be expected to the flow of traffic with the speed limit reduced to 40km while the works are underway.

The bus interchange will be relocated to the front of Assumption Church. Businesses and the nearby taxi rank remain open, however people may need to park in alternative spaces. The taxi rank may relocate to the basketball stadium as works progress.

The project is progressing on schedule with service identification works ongoing for the last few weeks. This has been a complex task due to the layout of the services and the intersection. Substantial time has been spent on the current investigative and planning works to ensure that crews know exactly what they are dealing with once they commence excavations. As with all civil works projects, time spent now on careful planning is likely to reduce delays or unexpected changes later.

Trenching and service relocation works have been scheduled to commence in the new year to minimise impact to businesses located near the intersection over the Christmas period. The staging plan has also been revised to reduce impact on businesses while maintaining traffic flow through the intersection.

The revised plan includes commencing water main relocation and pavement works in the tennis club carpark, with other works on realigning the intersection through the carpark near the shops soon to follow.

Works will continue on the northern side of Mitre Street, before switching to the southern side, with the proposed closure of Lambert Street to be tied into these works as a limited closure timed for the first term school holidays.

Crews are expected to finalise preparations on site from 6 January, with service trenching to be underway from 13 January.

Due to the size and complexity of this project, plans may change and evolve throughout different stages of the roundabout construction. Visit YourSay Bathurst for the latest information or phone 6333 6100.

Crews have mobilised on site and commenced constructing a compound near the intersection at Suttor, Mitre and Lambert Streets. A media launch was held near the site compound to mark commencement of the initial stages of works. The first few weeks of the project will involve service identification works, which will have no impact to traffic.

Drop in sessions were held at the Scout Hall in West Bathurst and at the Upstairs Hub in the CBD. Members of the community had the opportunity to meet with Council staff and the contractor to ask questions and discuss concerns they had. Thank you to everyone who came along.

Council will hold two drop-in information sessions on the construction of the roundabout at Suttor, Mitre and Lambert Streets on Thursday, 14 November.

The first drop-in session will be at the Upstairs Startup Hub from 12.00pm to 2.00pm and the second session will be at the Scout Hall in West Bathurst from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

The roundabout is being built in response to community concerns and feedback about safety issues at the intersection. The construction process is a complex and lengthy project due to the design of the intersection and the number of underground services in the area. It is envisaged the project will take approximately nine months to complete.

The project will be conducted in stages. The first of which are outlined below:

    Stage one
Carpark construction adjacent to the shops and water main works at the rear of the shops. The intersection will remain open under traffic control. Access between Coral Way and Suttor Street will be closed for the duration of the project.

    Stage two
Water main works at the intersection. The intersection will remain open under traffic control. Stages one and two are expected to take approximately eight weeks.

    Stage three
Road realignment and service relocation. Suttor and Mitre Streets will remain open under traffic control. Lambert Street will be fully closed to traffic. This is scheduled to occur during school holidays to minimise impact to traffic. This stage is expected to take approximately four weeks.

For information follow the Council Facebook page or call 6333 6100.

Council has accepted a tender from Talis Civil Pty Ltd for the construction of the roundabout at the Mitre Suttor Lambert Street intersection.

Council will meet with the successful tenderer in coming weeks and will then be able to confirm the timeline for when the work will commence at the intersection.

The tender accepted by Council will see the majority of the works undertaken under traffic control, ensuring traffic can still use the intersection while the roundabout is being built.

Council will also lock in dates for information sessions on the the project in coming weeks.

    MEDIA RELEASE 15 May 2019

Bathurst Regional Council has advertised the tender for construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Mitre/Suttor/Lambert Streets West Bathurst.

The project, now in the early planning and consultation stages, will include the relocation of the existing carpark and realignment of utilities and services including gas and water.

Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said Council has listened to the community and staff are now undertaking preliminary works.

“A consulting engineering firm has been engaged to prepare construction drawings and staff have commenced engaging the stakeholders that will be most impacted,” he said.

“The project timeline, cost and level of disruption, at this early stage are still being determined, however it is expected there will be traffic impacts, including full closures of the intersection, for more than nine months,” he said.
