Project Update 31 January 2020

There have been major changes to traffic, bus zones, school drop off zones and parking in the Mitre Suttor Lambert St intersection precinct during the week.

Changes will continue to occur as work progresses, please follow the directions of traffic control staff on site and be aware of changes to parking in the area. Council is asking that motorists allow for possible delays when travelling through the intersection and allow additional time for school pick up and drop offs.

What’s changed?

Changes were implemented this week to traffic layout outside Assumption School, which incorporated the following:

  • Restriction of traffic to the Assumption side of Mitre Street

  • Remarking of lines and barrier delineation of the Suttor Street leg

  • Relocation of bus zones to a single zone outside Assumption Church

  • Relocation of the morning drop-off zone for parents towards Piper Street to accommodate the relocated bus zone

  • Please note the new bus zones and no parking zones are enforceable.

In addition:

  • Motorists travelling south along Mitre Street are unable to turn right into Esrom Street.

  • Pedestrian access around the tennis courts has changed and the pedestrian crossing on Suttor St has been removed.

What will change next week?

The car park next to the shops will be closed to the public. The car park next to the Scout Hall will remain open. Please use this carpark to access the shops. Pedestrian access to the shops will be available.

What work is occurring?

The next stage of work is the watermain relocation. This will be done in stages, along with trenching and reinstatement works as other utilities are also relocated. On completion of service relocation works, pavement works will commence on the new tennis court carpark, the Suttor Street approach and the northern side of Mitre Street. The project will take up to 9 months to complete and any wet weather may push back the completion date.
