    The roundabout at the Suttor, Mitre, Lambert St intersection is complete.

    Council would like to thank the Assumption School, surrounding businesses and residents for their patience throughout the duration of the project.

    The beautification works are expected to commence later in the year. This will involve installation of irrigation, turfing and planting of vegetation, which is expected to have minimal impact to traffic. The carpark near the tennis courts will remain closed until this phase of the works is completed.

    What is happening?

    The roundabout at the intersection is taking shape however there is still some work to do before the project is completed. Disruption and delays to motorists are to be expected over the next few weeks.

    Crews have constructed the concrete ring of the roundabout and median islands on the approaches to the roundabout.

    Commencing Monday, 27 July several layers of asphalt will be applied to the intersection.The road resurfacing is expected to take 4-5 days to complete and will take place generally within school hours under road closure. Outside of school hours, during drop-off and pick-up times, the intersection is expected to be open under traffic control conditions. The roadway will be reopened to traffic at the end of each working day around 5.00pm.

    The finishing touches are currently being applied to the blisters and median strip near the pedestrian crossing on Mitre Street.

    Work is also continuing on construction of a carpark on the corner of Suttor and Mitre Sts. The carpark will have 25 spots for easy access to the shops and tennis courts. The area will be trimmed, sealed and line marked. Motorists are advised the intersection is currently still a work site and that delays are to be expected to the flow of traffic with the speed limit reduced to 40km while the works are underway.

    Once the construction phase is completed the beautification works can commence. This phase will involve installation of irrigation, turfing and planting of vegetation. This is expected to have minimal impact to traffic.

    What is happening?

    Asphalt works have started under road closure conditions with local detours in place. These works are expected to continue into next week.

    Crews will also soon start work on the concrete ring of the roundabout and median islands on the approaches to the roundabout. Road closures and detours will also occur when this commences.

    The asphalt works at the intersection will commence on Wednesday 24 June, weather permitting.

    The works are expected to be completed within three days under the following arrangements:

    • Traffic control crews will be utilised to manage pedestrian and traffic movements
    • During low peak hours, between school drop off and pick up time , full intersection closure and detours will be set up.
    • During peak times works will be completed under stop and go, with 1 lane of traffic maintained on all streets at any time.
    • Road will be reinstated and given back to two way traffic flow at the end of each shift.

    Delays are to be expected to the flow of traffic with the speed limit reduced to 40km while the works are underway.

    Once this work is completed, traffic impact going forward will be minimised as the remainder of the work can be done behind barricades.

    What is happening?

    Essential Energy have planned a power outage for the purpose of relocating and changing electrical infrastructure on Thursday, 18 June starting at 8 am. This will affect residential households located in the area. Generators will be supplied to the shops and Assumption School to keep them in operation.

    The intersection is taking shape and significant road realignment works have occurred between Suttor and Lambert Streets over the last couple of weeks. A footpath has been constructed and turf has also been laid in front of the shops. Works are now focusing on construction of a carpark at the tennis courts as well as relocation of NBN, Telstra and electricity services. Starting on Monday, 22 June asphalt works on Mitre Street will commence.

    What is happening?

    There will be significant changes to traffic movements at the intersection commencing this Wednesday, 20 May.

    The barriers will be relocated along Suttor Street, which will align traffic flow with Lambert Street. This will allow for works to occur near the tennis courts and on the western corner of Lambert and Mitre Streets heading towards Hill Street.

    A total closure of the entrance of Coral Way near Suttor Street will take place. All traffic to and from Coral Way and adjoining streets will need to detour via Mitre and Esrom Streets.

    The carpark near the Scout Hall will remain open for access to the shops.

    The last stage of the 450mm watermain renewal works were completed yesterday. Crews will now commence the road building activities.

    Talis have started demolition works in the area in front of the shops and will next week begin forming kerb and gutter. The first stage of asphalt laying work will follow in the week after.

    Traffic movements between Suttor, Mitre and Lambert Streets is enabled under traffic controlled conditions. Pedestrians will also need to follow pedestrian routes delineated by barrier fencing.

    Parking for access to the shops is available in the carpark near the Scout Hall. Council is asking that motorists allow for possible delays when travelling through the intersection and to please follow signage and directions from staff on site.

    From Monday 27 April to Friday 1 May, Telstra will excavate the ground to construct a concrete slab to protect underground cable which will close vehicle access on the western corner of Lambert and Mitre Sts heading towards Hill Street.

    It is envisaged to reinstate traffic at the end of each shift through the placement steel plates over the open excavation. In the event that traffic cannot be reinstated due to exiting service issues, detours will be in place for the duration of works.

    All other traffic movements between Mitre, Suttor and Lambert Streets will be enabled under traffic controlled conditions. Pedestrians will need to deviate locally around the work site per pedestrian routes delineated by barrier fencing.

    Parking for access to the shops is available in the carpark near the Scout Hall. Council is asking that motorists allow for possible delays when travelling through the intersection and to please follow signage and directions from staff on site.

    Council is continuing work on a range of infrastructure projects including the Suttor, Mitre, Lambert Street roundabout. The crews working on site are practising appropriate social distancing measures.


    Work has commenced with the installation of the larger water mains. This work will be conducted in stages and will see access to parts of the intersection limited while the mains are laid underneath the road.

    Part of the intersection will be closed next week for 450mm water main renewal across Mitre to Lambert Street. The closure will only be during working hours, typically 7.00am to 5.00pm from Monday, 20 April to Friday 24 April.

    Traffic control measures including VMS boards will be in place. Please follow directions of staff on site.

    • A detour route will be in place for right turn movements out of Lambert into Mitre and
    • A detour route for straight through path from Mitre to Hill St

    Access to the shops will be unaffected, although customers approaching from Lambert Street will need to negotiate signposted detours to access the carpark in front of the scout hall.


    Telstra crews were on site installing telecommunications cabling at the front of the shops. This is expected to be completed this week. Demolition works will then commence to clear the area in front of the shops for new kerb and gutter and road formation.


    The carpark next to the shops has been sealed and is now open to the public.


    Council is asking that motorists allow for possible delays when travelling through the intersection. The project will take up to 9 months to complete and any wet weather may push back the completion date.

    What is happening?

    Extensive work is continuing on service identification and relocation which involves gas, water, telecommunications and electricity. Works on the smaller filtered water mains are currently being finalised. Following that, work on the large diameter rising mains will continue into April.

    Effective from Friday, 27 March there will be a change to traffic flow on Mitre Street. The barriers will move to enable traffic to flow on the opposite side of the road in both directions to allow for water main works to continue. VMS boards will be on site to advise motorists of this change. Traffic control will also be on site to guide motorists using the intersection.

    There is expected to be no impact to the bus zones, school drop off zones or pedestrian crossing on Mitre Street.

    Please follow the directions of traffic control staff on site and be aware of changes to parking in the area. Council is asking that motorists allow for possible delays when travelling through the intersection and allow additional time for school pick up and drop offs.

    The project will take up to 9 months to complete and any wet weather may push back the completion date.
