Bathurst Regional Youth Council has launched a ‘Keep Positive’ campaign to provide young people some enjoyment and entertainment during the lockdown through an online competition.

The competition consists of two categories asking participants to submit a painting, digital artwork or sketch for category one or a short fictional story, non-fictional story or poetry for the category two. Entries can be submitted online through Council’s website.

Mayor Ian North said the competition starts today and will run through to October 29.

“There are twelve Buy Local Gift cards with a value of $50 each to be awarded to the best entries in each category based on age groups, he said.”

“During this challenging time, it is important to stay engaged and this Youth Council initiative is a wonderful way to stay positive while showcasing the talent and skills of our city’s young people.”

A section of Prince St is currently closed to traffic for road works including widening of this section of Prince Street and the installation of kerb and guttering.

Interested library members can follow these few easy steps:

1. Select: Select and reserve items on the library online catalogue. If unsure how to do this, library staff can assist with selections.

EOI Former TAFE Precinct

Council has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the redevelopment of the former TAFE Precinct.

The precinct will be a once in a generation opportunity for the Bathurst region. The precinct will include a new public plaza and new buildings, adaptive reuse of the former TAFE and headmaster’s buildings. It is informed by previous community consultation and conservation management plans.

Council is seeking development interest in the precinct with private (not Council) funding. Private funding allows for the full precinct to be developed, it also allows money from the development of new private buildings to fund the new ‘plaza’ and the adaptive reuse of the Heritage Buildings.

Bathurst has recorded one new COVID case today.

Mayor of Bathurst Ian North said today’s announcement of a case in the city is a timely reminder that we all need to continue to be vigilant and to get tested even if we have only the mildest of symptoms.

“Testing facilities remain open seven days a week at Mount Panorama and Bathurst Hospital and I encourage the community to get tested if you have any cold and flu like symptoms.

“Surveillance testing is also now available to our community. This means if you have no symptoms, you can get tested and you don’t have to isolate. Surveillance testing is an important way of providing health officials with insights as to whether COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community.

“Increased testing rates, vaccination and continuing to follow COVID safe measures like good hygiene, wearing face masks and social distancing are needed to keep our community safe and stop COVID transmission.

“We are all looking forward to the day when stay at home orders are lifted for our community, and for this to happen we all need to play a part,” Cr North said.

Interested library members can follow these few easy steps:

Mayor Ian North said that access to library material is always important, but it is particularly so when in lockdown.

“We know how important reading is to our community. Not everyone can or want to access online resources,” Cr North said.

“The Select & Collect service will allow people to get physical library items while still respecting government health guidelines. Protocols have been put in place so we can offer a contactless pick-up from the foyer”.

Members are asked to follow social distancing guidelines when using the Select & Collect service and stay home if they are unwell. Returns can be placed in the chute at the front of the library at any time. Members will need to bring identification and will need to check in using the Service NSW COVIDSafe check-in.

Manager Library Services Patou Clerc said she encourages the community to also explore the library website which offers a wealth of resources.

“Existing library members already have access to the eLibrary. If you are not already a library member you can still access the online collections during lockdown by joining as a temporary eMember on our website,” she said.

“This is a temporary membership but it can be easily transferred to a full membership when the library doors open again”.

Library members can reserve items today and can call to initiate the Select & Collect service from Wednesday 29 September.

Select & Collect will replace the Bathurst Library lockdown delivery service to homes in the Bathurst town area. The last day to request a delivery is Tuesday 28 September with the last delivery on Thursday 30 September.

Council has rescheduled the Sunnybright Estate land ballot to 10am Friday 24 September.

The land ballot was postponed last week after Council was unable to hold the ballot as the Civic Centre was closed to all staff for cleaning after a Covid exposure.

Sunnybright Estate, locked in Kelso off Limekilns Roads, consists of lots sized from 706m2 to 1439m2 and priced from $245,000 to $300,000. The lots will be sold by ballot with the draw to take place this Friday, 24 September at 10am, via livestream.

General Manager David Sherley said all registrations have been maintained and are automatically included for this week’s draw.

“With staff back working from the Civic Centre we are now able to proceed with the ballot draw and livestream this Friday,” Mr Sherley said.

Council meeting Wednesday 22 September

The rescheduled September Council meeting will be held this Wednesday 22 September at 6pm.

The meeting was to be held last Wednesday but was deferred.

The agenda remains the same as previously released and members of the community can view the meeting via livestream on Council’s YouTube channel.

Limited staff will return to the Civic Centre on Monday after the building was deep cleaned following an exposure to Covid-19.

General Manager David Sherley said the Civic Centre will remain closed to the public. Customer services will be provided to residents via phone and email.

“A large number of Council’s staff are also continuing to work from home or from separate work locations," he said.

Staff that were casual contacts have returned negative results and staff who were close contacts have returned negative results and are continuing to isolate.

The Waste Management Centre will reopen to the general public from 10am, Friday morning.

General Manager David Sherley said the facility was reopened to commercial users on Wednesday after it was closed over the weekend after a possible link to the Covid exposure at the Civic Centre.

“The Waste Management Centre will be open to the public at 10am, Friday morning and will continue to operate standard hours 7.30am - 4.30 Monday to Friday, but we again would encourage that people delay their visit if they can, to reduce queueing. The facility will be open from 8.30am – 3.00pm on the weekend, he said.”

“Could I request that people are patient to also observe Public Health Order requirements to wear a mask at all times and observe social distancing. QR code check-in will be required by all members of the public that attend the Waste Management Centre.”

Council’s Sunnybright Estate land ballot postponed

Due to the recent Covid exposure at the Civic Centre, the land ballot has been postponed until further notice.

The estate, located in Kelso off Limekilns Road, consists of lots sized from 706m2 to 1439m2 and priced from $245 000 to $300 000. They were due to be sold by ballot with the draw set to take place on 17 September via livestream.

General Manager David Sherley said all registrations will be retained.

“The registrations will be maintained on file, and we will advise when we have a new date for the ballot,” he said.

“The decision to defer the ballot was made as this will ensure that we can livestream the ballot to the interested parties”.
