Water Harvesting works to commence on Alpha Street

Water harvesting works will commence on Alpha Street which will impact part of Russell Street on Monday 15, May.

The project will involve trenching and laying of pipes with partial closures of lower end of Russell Street (adjacent to the gas works) and Alpha Street for a period of approximately twelve weeks.

The works will occur from 7.00am to 5.00pm weekdays which will entail partial road closures. The roads will be fully reopened outside of these times. The works will occur in stages, so there will be minimal disruption to parking near the soccer fields.

The water harvesting project will boost the city’s water security by providing extra drinking water supply. The scheme will include a 36 megalitre storage pond off Morrisset Street to capture stormwater runoff from drains and catchments and an 8 megalitre storage pond at the Water Filtration Plant.

The NSW Government has provided $20 million in funding to Council for water security projects including the Water Harvesting Scheme and the Winburndale pipeline project.
