Bathurst Regional Local Strategic Planning Statement #visionbathurst

Consultation has concluded

Council is developing a Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) that will set out a coordinated vision for how places in the Bathurst region are planned and how changes in land use will be managed in the future. This Planning Statement outlines a clear connection between State and Local Government policies, priorities and responsibilities. The Bathurst region community is unique, yet we are part of the Central West and our Local Strategic Planning Statement must align with the NSW Government’s Central West and Orana Regional Plan.

The LSPS will be a document which summarises the unique values and characteristics of the Bathurst region and captures community aspirations for the future land use and character of our City. The LSPS is the opportunity to suggest actions to address the challenges facing the region over the next 20 years. It will be used to guide future land use planning decisions for the local area.

In planning for our future there are many considerations:

  • How will our local area grow and change? What infrastructure will be needed to support that growth?
  • What housing options are needed to allow residents to remain connected to family and community over time?
  • How can we maintain our lifestyle, local character and environment whilst also meeting changing community needs?

By setting clear directions and priorities for the future, the Local Strategic Planning Statement will also be a tool to seek support from the State Government for projects and funding for the Bathurst region.

The Statement is an opportunity to continue to support and acknowledge key areas of focus for the Bathurst region, including the protection of the environmental and cultural significance of the local area. It also provides the opportunity to set priorities for how we use land for housing, employment, and tourism.

How you can be involved?

Council will be developing the Local Planning Statement over the next 12-18 months. Community consultation and management will be conducted throughout this process to inform and refine the Statement as it is developed. You’re invited to be part of the conversation about our shared future.

The LSPS engagement offers an opportunity for residents to have a say in how their community will change. The first opportunity to be involved is via an online survey. Council is encouraging community members to use this platform to share their thoughts about:

What do you value about the Bathurst region?

What things would you like to see improved?

What should be preserved or enhanced?

Your responses will be used to develop the community’s vision, priorities and actions for how we plan to use land in the local area. This will be refined with the community’s help in the second round of consultation to be conducted early next year, where feedback will be sought on the draft Planning Statement.
