Consultation has concluded

Council has recently received a number of development applications where the garages dominate the streetscape and the dwellings do not address the street by way of a front door or living spaces. Within the residential development areas, Council is aiming at reducing the dominance of the garages forward of the building line through the introduction of design standards, particularly applying to dual occupancy and residential unit developments.

The Development Control Plan (DCP) amendment will amend Section 4.4 – General Siting Considerations – All residential development of the Bathurst Regional Development Control Plan 2014 to:

  • Insert a requirement that garages are to be located a minimum of 1 metre behind the main building façade in suburban locations.
  • Insert external appearance controls for Dual Occupancy and Residential Unit Developments. This section will also include design examples of facades for narrow lots with a reduced garage door dominance.

How can I participate or find out more information?

Council is exhibiting the amendment to the draft Bathurst Regional Development Control Plan 2014 for a period of 28 days from 15 August 2016 until 12 September 2016.
