CLOSING THE LOOP:

Council's Aboriginal Commitment Strategy, Bula - Version 2 (can be viewed in the document library) was adopted by Council at its meeting on Wednesday 4 February 2026.

The draft Aboriginal Commitment Strategy, Bula - Version 2 was placed on Public Exhibition for 28 days from Friday 21 November 2025 - Thursday 18 December 2025. 

During Public Exhibition, Council received feedback from Bathurst's three Recognised Aboriginal Parties, Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council, Wahluu Health Aboriginal Corporation (verbal feedback) and Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Central West Aboriginal Corporation.

Two written submissions were received by community members.

Council's Aboriginal Commitment Strategy: 

Council adopted Bathurst Regional Council's inaugural Aboriginal Commitment Strategy, Ngumbaay - Version 1 in August 2022. 

 For over three years, the Aboriginal Commitment Strategy, Ngumbaay - Version 1 guided Council in continuing its strong connection with Bathurst's Aboriginal community, and developing meaningful relationships with Aboriginal people, organisations and stakeholders. 

 Following the second review of the inaugural Strategy, Council completed consultation throughout November 2024, yarning face to face with approximately 55 Aboriginal community members and received 20 anonymous consultation flag cards from community participants. Meaningful conversations were also held with Elders, stakeholders and Recognised Aboriginal Parties. From this consultation, Council have respectfully updated the Aboriginal Commitment Strategy. 

Council's Aboriginal Commitment Strategy, Bula - Version 2 reflects community voices and provides a strong foundation for continued collaboration, respect and meaningful outcomes with Aboriginal people across the Bathurst region.

    Council is undertaking community consultation to develop the Bathurst Regional Council Aboriginal Commitment Strategy. The Strategy will guide Council in working effectively and collaboratively with the Aboriginal community of Bathurst. The consultation process will include this survey, stakeholder workshops and community yarning circles. Council recognises the importance of ensuring the local community’s voices, ideas and concerns are reflected in the Strategy. We invite you to have your say by completing the following survey.
