Sustainable Living Expo

Fast Ed from Better Homes and Gardens will be the guest speaker at this year’s Sustainable Living Expo on Saturday, 28 March. The expo is on from 8.00am to 1.00pm and runs in conjunction Bathurst Farmers’ Markets. The event will also feature a range of exhibitions, workshops, an interactive children’s show promoting water conservation and the return of the popular Shoalhaven Zoo to You.

In the lead up to his appearance at the expo, Fast Ed will host ‘Cooking with Ed’ on Friday, 27 March from 7.00pm at Bathurst Showground. The event features a cooking demonstration, question and answer session and autograph session.

On Tuesday 10 March, consultants will be available to learn about the community’s vision for the Bathurst Town Centre. Community members are invited to attend drop-in engagement sessions to meet with Council’s consultants.

A grant of up to $10,000 (paid over two years) is available to the winning project or area of learning.

The expo is on from 8.00am to 1.00pm and runs in conjunction Bathurst Farmers’ Markets. The event will also feature a range of exhibitions, workshops, an interactive children’s show promoting water conservation and the return of the popular Shoalhaven Zoo to You.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said the event raises awareness of ways to live more sustainably.

“The Sustainable Living Expo is also an opportunity for organisations including local businesses, non-government organisations, community groups and others to showcase their sustainable ideas, products, services and volunteer opportunities,” he said.

“Everyone can contribute to the environment by living more sustainably. There are many simple things that can be done to reduce the amount of resources we consume. Come along to the expo and find out how,”.

The Sustainable Living Expo provides information about sustainable living, waste and recycling, water conservation, green design and construction, solar power, gardening and wildlife in addition to future sustainability objectives which may be prioritised in the future. Entry to the expo is via gold coin donation.

Events for International Women’s Day are held around the world each year to celebrate women’s achievements they make to their community.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said the events celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

“The significance of International Women's Day is increasing each year as is the respect, appreciation and care for women in our community and society,” he said.

Council will hold two events. The first is a free informal event, Equal, Evening, Everyone on Friday, March 6 in Machattie Park from 5.00pm-7.00pm.

The event will feature a performance from stand-up comedian Jennifer Menchin. Jennifer grew up in country NSW and began her radio career in Bathurst. She has since won several Australian Commercial Radio Awards and now performs stand-up comedy at various events throughout NSW. The Bashira Belly Dancers and two local musicians will also perform. Light refreshments will be available.

The second event is a free livestream of All About Women from Sydney Opera House at BMEC on Sunday, 8 March from 11.00am to 3.30pm.

Consultation sessions to learn about the community’s vision for Bathurst Town Centre will be on Tuesday, 10 March.

Community members are invited to attend drop-in engagement sessions to discuss their vision with Council’s consultants.

In September last year, Council and Charles Sturt University entered discussions to formulate a plan to strengthen Bathurst’s position as a regional education hub, including through a potential Charles Sturt University presence in the CBD. The aim of the Master Plan to is to provide a strategy to strengthen the historic Bathurst Town Centre as the regional business and cultural hub of the city in an era of significant retail change.

Mayor Bobby Bourke encouraged the community to attend the sessions for their chance to contribute to this important project.

“I invite everyone to attend the drop-in engagement sessions to discuss their vision. A brief presentation will be held at the beginning of each session followed by individual and group discussions,” he said.

Changes to watering gardens

Bathurst remains on Extreme water restrictions, however, there will be a change to the way gardens are watered later this month.

From Monday 24 February, residents will no longer be permitted to use a hose, microspray system or other water efficient irrigation systems. Instead, gardens can only be watered using buckets and watering cans.

Water times will be simplified, with watering allowed before 10.00 am or after 4.00 pm, on Wednesdays and Sundays only for 30 minutes of filling time. The 30 minutes will apply for the time it takes to fill buckets and watering cans.

Council is inviting applications for small grants to assist local property owners and community groups to restore, repair, promote and interpret the region’s heritage.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said built heritage helps to tell the stories from the past and provide insights into important people and events.

“It informs us about our cultural history and connects us with our past and gives our community a sense of identity. It is important that we maintain and conserve this part of our history,” he said.

Greywater which can be collected from showers, sinks and laundries can still be applied before 10am and after 4pm on any day.

Mayor of Bathurst Bobby Bourke said the change has been triggered as a result of Chifley Dam reaching 29 per cent. The changes in watering times will also ensure that residents can continue to water during daylight hours when daylight savings ends.

“Water restrictions are an important and necessary measure designed to reduce water consumption and give Council time to complete important water infrastructure projects to augment Council’s water supply. I would like to thank our community for your overwhelming support of water restrictions. Residents, businesses and community groups have been very responsive in adopting water conservation measures and complying with the water restrictions,” he said.

Suttor, Mitre, Lambert Street Roundabout

Due to the Mitre, Suttor, Lambert Street roundabout construction, there will be changed traffic conditions in the area.

The bus interchange has relocated to the front of Assumption Church and there are changes to school drop-off and pick-up zones.

The intersection remains open under traffic control; however, delays are expected with reduced speed limits. Please allow extra time for school drop off and pick up.

Works are expected to change frequently due to the nature of the project,people are advised to approach the intersection with caution at all times and adhere to the changing traffic conditions.

Bathurst Bike Show

8 February, 10am – 2pm

Russell St, Bathurst

The Bathurst Street and Custom Motorcycle Show is a unique grass-roots community-based motorcycle show. Bikes on show range from daily rides to full on customs. A variety of brands and styles of bike are represented; over 100 bikes on display last year. Trade stalls and club displays line the street, including the Shannon’s semi, and there’s also entertainment for kids.

The show is building Bathurst as a motorcycle ‘mecca’, preparing for the return of motorcycle racing when the new circuit is built.

CBD CCTV Stage Two

Works for the second stage of the CBD CCTV project will commence on Monday 10 February. The project will involve underboring works in locations around the CBD which will have an impact on parking. The system is expected to go live in June.
