Eglinton Sewer Infrastructure works

The Eglinton bound lane on the Rankens Bridge, will be closed to traffic from 6am to 6pm on Monday, 12 August to Thursday, 15 August inclusive, weather permitting. The temporary road closure is necessary to facilitate pipe laying for Council’s sewer infrastructure upgrading

project. There will be traffic control in place. If you would like more information on this project, please call Council on 6333 6111. Please allow for a few minutes extra for possible delays.

Mitre-Suttor-Lambert- Street Roundabout Construction

Council has called tenders for the construction of the Mitre-Suttor-Lambert Street roundabout.

The tenders are currently being assessed and a report is expected be considered by Council in August. The roundabout is being built in response to community concerns and feedback about safety issues at the intersection. CCTV Funding Program

Funding is available to local businesses for CCTV to improve security and community safety. Funding is up to a maximum of $500 on a dollar for dollar basis. Projects must be completed within the current 2019/2020 financial year to be eligible to apply for a grant.

Sporting Association Grants

Grants are available to assist local sporting organisations affiliated with Bathurst Sports Council for works or to purchase equipment. For more information call 6333 6285 or visit www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au. Applications close on Tuesday 24 September.

Bathurst Access Improvement For Small Business Grants

Council in partnership with the Bathurst Regional Access Committee provides

grants to assist local small businesses and non-profit organisations to improve access and inclusion to their place of business/organisation.

Theo Barker Memorial Lecture

The Theo Barker Memorial Lecture will be held at BMEC on 16 August at 6.30pm. This free public lecture, co-hosted by Bathurst District Historical Society and Council, is held every two years in memory of Theo Barker a Bathurst historian.

The lecture, titled “Let’s Do Heritage Differently”, will be presented by Barbara Hickson who has over 22 years’ experience in heritage management. For more information visit www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au

RocoColonial Artist Talks

Listen to artists featured in the RocoColonial exhibition as they discuss their works in relation to the ideas of the Rococo and the Colonial. The discussion will be led by artist-initiator Gary Carsley. Friday 2 August 5pm.

RocoColonial Official Opening

RocoColonial consists of 15 contemporary Australian artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, video, design and fashion who explore themes at the intersection of the terms Rococo and Colonial. The works are dazzling and dynamic, playful and outrageous, thought-provoking and powerful. To be opened by Distinguished Professor Peter McNeil FAFA, University of Technology Sydney. Friday, 2 August 6-8pm. $8 BRAGS members, $12 non-members, $5 students (must show student card).

Abercrombie Afternoon Soiree @ Abercrombie House, 311 Ophir Road

Join a delightful afternoon of music, local and sparkling wines, canapes and artist talks to celebrate the opening of the RocoColonial satellite exhibition at Abercrombie House. The house will be open for visitors to explore and see the works of Tony Clark, Peter Cooley, Deborah Kelly, Jennifer Leahy and Danie Mellor. Saturday 3 August 2.30-4pm. Free event.

Bathurst Library and Legal Aid NSW will present a series of free information sessions on planning for the future as you age. The sessions will cover who should plan ahead, how to do it and the legal issues to consider.

Author talk: Dr Stephen Gapps

Meet award-winning historian Dr Stephen Gapps on Tuesday, 13 August at 6.15pm as he discusses The Sydney Wars, which reveals British soldiers and First Nation warriors both used military-style tactics in a ‘constant war’ during early settlement. He will also share new research about the conflicts at Bathurst. Bookings essential.

Australian Poetry Slam

Hone your poetry slam writing and performance skills at this special workshop on Thursday, 15 August from 4-6pm.The workshop will feature last year’s Australian Poetry Slam Champion, Melanie Mununggurr-Williams followed by the Bathurst heat of this nationwide search for Australia’s best slammer.
