Fundraising opportunity at the Bathurst Cycling Classic

Are you a part of a local sporting club or community group that is looking for an opportunity to fundraise? Council is calling for volunteers to assist at the Bathurst Cycling Classic, 14-15 March. By volunteering, you will earn a monetary donation to help your organisation achieve its fundraising goals. For more information and to register, visit the Bathurst Cycling Classic website.

Sustainable Living Expo

Fast Ed from Better Homes and Gardens will be the guest speaker at this year’s Sustainable Living Expo on Saturday, 28 March. The expo is on from 8.00am to 1.00pm and runs in conjunction Bathurst Farmers’ Markets. The event will also feature a range of exhibitions, workshops, an interactive children’s show promoting water conservation and the return of the popular Shoalhaven Zoo to You.

In the lead up to his appearance at the expo, Fast Ed will host ‘Cooking with Ed’ on Friday, 27 March from 7.00pm at Bathurst Showground. The event features a cooking demonstration, question and answer session and autograph session.

Bathurst Town Centre Masterplan Consultations

On Tuesday 10 March, consultants will be available to learn about the community’s vision for the Bathurst Town Centre. Community members are invited to attend drop-in engagement sessions to meet with Council’s consultants.

Village Meetings

Council will hold meetings with residents in villages during March and April 2020. You are invited to attend and meet with Councillors and Council’s Senior Staff to discuss projects Council is currently undertaking and any other matters of interest with you.

Each meeting will commence at 6.00 pm and will be held at the following locations:

• Raglan Community Hall – 31 March

• Peel Community Hall – 2 April

• Sunny Corner Community Hall – 7 April

Railway Museum Plaques

Heritage Assistance Grants

Applications are now invited for small grants for the following funds:

Bathurst Region Heritage Fund

Provides small grants for the repair and maintenance of older buildings in the region. The program is supported by the NSW Heritage Branch of the Office of Environment and Heritage.

Bathurst CBD Main Street Improvement Fund

Provides small grants to assist property owners and tenants to improve, repair and maintain buildings within the Bathurst CBD.

Bathurst Region Interpretation Fund

Provides small grants for the preparation of Conservation Management Plans, historic publications and interpretation projects to promote and interpret the region’s history.

Author Talk - The Gift of Adoption

What is it really like to adopt a child from overseas? Get an inside view of the red tape, challenges and reward of forming a loving family from different cultures.

Bathurst Region Macquarie Medal Project/Scholarship

Applications are now invited for a supporting grant or scholarship to undertake a major work or learning in the following areas:

Conservation, maintenance and adaptive reuse projects of heritage items or at risk buildings and sites of heritage value within the Bathurst region.

Promotion and interpretation of the history and heritage of the Bathurst region, its building and places, natural environment, people and projects and their embedded stories and enhance community reflection and understanding about the Bathurst region’s history.

Support the learning in heritage management and conservation.

Foster and support the growth of heritage trades and practices.

A grant of up to $10,000 (paid over two years) is available to the winning project or area of learning.

Applications for funding must be made on Council’s application form which is available on Council’s website at www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au or from Council’s Environmental, Planning and Building Services Department, Civic Centre, Russell Street, Bathurst.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 13 March 2020. Further information can be obtained by contacting Council on 6333 6211.

Harmony Day Celebrations

Council, in partnership with the Neighbourhood Centre, will be hosting a free community event to celebrate Harmony Day on Saturday 21 March 2020 from 10am to 12noon at the Bathurst Library/Art Gallery Forecourt in Keppel Street. The event will feature multicultural food and entertainment including a drumming circle, young musicians playing didgeridoo and multicultural dancers.

There will also be craft activities for all to enjoy. Attendees are encouraged to wear their national dress. Multicultural Storytelling will also be held at 11am in the Bathurst Library.

Manning Aquatic Centre Pool Maintenance

The leisure pool (children’s pool) and the program pool will be closed from 16 March to 27 April for maintenance. All programs will be held in the 25m pool over this period. The temperature of the pool will be increased, and temporary stair access will be installed for greater accessibility. For more information visit bathurstaquatic.com.au
