Bathurst Library May Book Sale

Grab a bargain at Bathurst Library’s book sale on Friday 6 May to Sunday 8 May. Choose from a great range of ex-library items and donated books, starting from just 50c.

Track 2 Town

Track 2 Town will take place between 11am – 1pm on Thursday 12 May. Cars from the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour will be on display along with driver signings and a free barbecue available.

Proclamation Ceremony

Council invites residents to acknowledge the anniversary of the proclamation by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815 of Bathurst as a settlement on Sunday 8 May. The ceremony is at 10am at the Flag Staff acknowledging the 2022 Living Legends, followed by a commemoration of past Bathurstians at 11am at the Pillars of Bathurst.

Seeking budget feedback

If you are keen to find out what we are planning to achieve over the next 12 months, make sure to review our draft Delivery Program 2022-2026 and Operational Plan 2022/2023.

The plan is our commitment to our community on how and where funds will be spent and what services and activities the community can expect to be delivered during the financial year.

The Delivery Program & Operational Plan, incorporating the Revenue Policy, outlines the strategies and financial resources required over the next four years to implement the key directions identified by the community in our Bathurst 2040 Community Strategic Plan.

The draft plan is now open for public submissions and can be viewed at: yoursay.bathurst.nsw.gov.au, at the Civic Centre or at the library.

Submissions are invited mailto:media@bathurst.nsw.gov.auuntil 4:45pm on Friday 20 May, and will be considered at the Council meeting in June.

Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan

Council has prepared a Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2022 - 2027, which is on

exhibition for community feedback. Hard copies of the draft plan are available for viewing at the Civic Centre and Bathurst Library or from the YourSay Bathurst website.

Submissions can be lodged via YourSay Bathurst or in writing to The General Manager, Private Mail Bag 17, Bathurst, NSW, 2795. Submissions can be made until 4pm Friday 27 May.

SMS service to remind pet owners to register their cat or dog

Council has a new service in place which sends SMS reminders to dog and cat owners to register their pets. All cats and dogs, other than exempt cats and dogs, must be registered by six months of age.

The registration fee is a once-only payment, which covers the cat or dog for its Registering your pet and updating the contact details, if required, is the best way to ensure your pet is returned to you if they ever become lost.

Pet owners are encouraged to register their cat or dog online at www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au, which is a database of registered cats or dogs that live in NSW.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is held annually from 27 May - 3 June. NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The NRW 2022 theme "Be Brave. Make Change." calls for all Australians to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

Council will mark NRW 2022 by hosting a free, family fun football afternoon at Kelso Community Hub on Friday 27 May 2022 from 3:30pm – 5:30pm.

The event will include:

  • Football activities facilitated by local league clubs
  • Traditional Indigenous Games facilitated by Bathurst Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG)
  • Library Van visit – Book borrowing and children’s activities
  • Catering by Indigenous Cultural Adventures
  • Informal touch football match for children, youth, community members, service providers and local football role models

Grant Writing Workshops

Council and Regional Development Australia are conducting two grant writing workshops on Tuesday, 17 May to assist community groups and businesses apply for the many grants offered by all levels of Government. Anyone can attend either workshop however they will be structured to meet the requirements of the targeted audience.

Heritage Grants

Council is now inviting applications for small grants to assist local property owners and community groups to restore, repair, promote and interpret the region’s heritage.

  • The Bathurst Region Local Heritage Fund provides small grants for the repair and maintenance of older buildings in the region. The program is supported by the NSW Heritage Branch of the Office of Environment and Heritage.
  • The Bathurst CBD Main Street Improvement Fund provides small grants to assist property owners and tenants to activate, improve, repair and maintain buildings within the central business district.
  • The Bathurst Region Interpretation Fund provides small grants for the preparation of Conservation Management

Plans, historic publications and interpretation projects to promote and interpret the region’s history.

Applications for funding must be made on the application form which is available on the YourSay Bathurst website.

Council is offering a range of free programs for seniors (65 years +) in the coming weeks.

  • U3A information session – Tuesday 10 May at the RSL
  • Stretch Class (hosted by CityFit) – Wednesday 12 May at the RSL
  • Healthy Cooking for Seniors (hosted by Harvest Café) – Thursday 13 May at the RSL
  • Health information session – Tuesday 17 May at the RSL
  • Lawn Bowls– Wednesday 18 May at Greens on William

National Sorry Day

To commemorate National Sorry Day, an unveiling of a plaque and an afternoon tea will be held in the PJ Moodie Courtyard behind the Civic Centre on Thursday, 26 May at 2.00pm.
