Proclamation Ceremony

Council invites residents to acknowledge the anniversary of the proclamation by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815 of Bathurst as a settlement on Sunday 8 May. The ceremony is at 10am at the Flag Staff acknowledging the 2022 Living Legends, followed by a commemoration of past Bathurstians at 11am at the Pillars of Bathurst. Seeking budget feedback

If you are keen to find out what we are planning to achieve over the next 12 months, make sure to review our draft Delivery Program 2022-2026 and Operational Plan 2022/2023.

The plan is our commitment to our community on how and where funds will be spent and what services and activities the community can expect to be delivered during the financial year.

The Delivery Program & Operational Plan, incorporating the Revenue Policy, outlines the strategies and financial resources required over the next four years to implement the key directions identified by the community in our Bathurst 2040 Community Strategic Plan.

The draft plan is now open for public submissions and can be viewed at: yoursay.bathurst.nsw.gov.au, at the Civic Centre or at the library.

Submissions are invited until 4:45pm on Friday 20 May, and will be considered at the Council meeting in June.

SMS service to remind pet owners to register their cat or dog

Council has a new service in place which sends SMS reminders to dog and cat owners to register their pets. All cats and dogs, other than exempt cats and dogs, must be registered by six months of age.

The registration fee is a once-only payment, which covers the cat or dog for its Registering your pet and updating the contact details, if required, is the best way to ensure your pet is returned to you if they ever become lost.

Pet owners are encouraged to register their cat or dog online at www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au, which is a database of registered cats or dogs that live in NSW.

Dino-store exhibit

The Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum has a new display featuring three young dinosaurs that you can pat and interact with. The display features a Stegosaurus, Utahraptor and a Monolophosaurus and is staged as a pet shop where you can imagine what it would be like to have a dinosaur as a pet.

Waste 2 Art

Waste 2 Art is a community art initiative that is run across the central west and is designed to showcase creative works made from recycled and waste materials, encouraging artists and the audience to think about reducing, reusing and recycling waste.

This year’s theme is soft plastics, however other waste items can be used. Entries are open until 4 May and open to people of all ages and creative skills.

Grant Writing Workshops

Council and Regional Development Australia are conducting two grant writing workshops on Tuesday, 17 May to assist community groups and businesses apply for the many grants offered by all levels of Government. Anyone can attend either workshop however they will be structured to meet the requirements of the targeted audience.

Heritage Grants

Council is now inviting applications for small grants to assist local property owners and community groups to restore, repair, promote and interpret the region’s heritage.

  • The Bathurst Region Local Heritage Fund provides small grants for the repair and maintenance of older buildings in the region. The program is supported by the NSW Heritage Branch of the Office of Environment and Heritage.
  • The Bathurst CBD Main Street Improvement Fund provides small grants to assist property owners and tenants to activate, improve, repair and maintain buildings within the central business district.
  • The Bathurst Region Interpretation Fund provides small grants for the preparation of Conservation Management

Plans, historic publications and interpretation projects to promote and interpret the region’s history.

Applications for funding must be made on the application form which is available on the YourSay Bathurst website.
