Bathurst Regional Council is hosting a series of free water smart gardening workshops to teach gardeners a range of tips and tricks for keeping their garden blooming under Extreme water restrictions.
Mayor Cr Bobby Bourke said with the introduction of Extreme water restrictions on 14 October, Council was keen to help residents understand how to get the most out of the limited amount water available for gardens.
“The workshops, presented by qualified horticulturalist Dhyan Blore, will cover a range of topics designed to give gardeners as much information as possible about how to keep their gardens alive as we move into summer and Extreme water restrictions. Council is holding a series of nine workshops between now and December to give as many people as possible a chance to attend one of the sessions,” Cr Bourke said.
Topics covered during the 1.5-2hr interactive workshops designed for home gardeners are:
· caring for plants in dry times
· maximising water in gardens and plants
· the importance of mulch
· features of drought tolerant plants
· water for backyard birds and wildlife
· using grey water on gardens
Workshops will be held at:
· 10am, Thursday 10 October
· 10am, Friday 18 October
· 10am, Thursday 24 October
· 2pm, Saturday 2 November
· 10am, Monday 11 November
· 10am, Tuesday 19 November
· 10am, Wednesday 4 December
· 2pm, Saturday 7 December
· 10am, Wednesday 11 December.
All workshops will be held at Rahamim Ecoloby Centre, 34 Busby St, South Bathurst.
