Red alert for blue-green algae at Chifley Dam

MEDIA RELEASE 2 January 2020

A red alert warning has been issued for blue-green algae at Chifley Dam.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said the dam is currently closed to all recreational activities.

“Council will continue to monitor the dam algae levels in accordance with the guidelines,” he said.

The red alert level warning indicates that people should not undertake recreational activities where they may come into direct contact with the water such as swimming, as well as domestic use including showering and washing. Contact with the water may also pose a threat to livestock and pets.
