Get Grubby

MEDIA RELEASE 26 June 2020

Council has joined Australia’s best online sustainability program for children called ‘Get Grubby’. The program is free to all pre-schools, child and family day care centres, primary schools in the area.

Eco-warriors Dirtgirl, Scrapboy and Costa the Garden Gnome from ABC Kids, star in 50 online videos that explore a variety of activities for childcare centres and primary schools.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said the program will inspire children to go outside to explore and celebrate nature, and become great recyclers, composters, gardeners, worm-farmers and water savers.

“There are ten units in the program and most of them coincide with events such as World Environment Day and National Recycling Week,” he said.

The program includes plenty activities of to choose from on each topic including games, crafts, quizzes, music and drama. Get Grubby also enables centres to meet the sustainability outcomes for the National Quality Standard and Curriculum Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care.

All child-care, day care, family day care centres and primary schools in the Bathurst region are eligible for free access to the program. Please email environment@bathurst.nsw.gov.au or visit the Sustainable Bathurst Facebook page for more information or to sign up.
