Council adopts Aboriginal Commitment Strategy

MEDIA RELEASE 18 August 2022

Council has adopted the Aboriginal Commitment Strategy at its meeting held last night.

Mayor Robert Taylor said the strategy will guide Council in working effectively and collaboratively with the Aboriginal community of Bathurst.

“Through extensive community consultation conducted earlier this year with local Aboriginal people, the wider community and other stakeholders, Council has developed ten key commitments and 32 actions to achieve reconciliation, support cultural protection and increase community and stakeholder relationships,” he said.

Council has successfully delivered two Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP) for the years 2015-2017 and 2019-2021. The Aboriginal Commitment Strategy has been developed in lieu of the RAP.

Council will work collaboratively to ensure the 32 actions are components to be addressed in all Council operations and are delivered in a culturally appropriate and inclusive manner
