Buy Local Gift Card reaches new milestone in December

MEDIA RELEASE 21 January 2020

The Bathurst Buy Local Gift Card, an initiative of Bathurst Regional Council which encourages people to shop locally, has hit a new milestone with more than half a million dollars being loaded onto the cards.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said this was a great result for local businesses particularly given that the region is in a midst of a drought.

“The initiative means that $512 601 has been spent in our community bolstering the economy and supporting local businesses, as opposed to potentially being spent online or outside of our region,” he said.

“December 2019 proved to be the most successful month since the initiative was first implemented by Council in 2015. More than 700 cards were purchased with $45 370 loaded in a single month”.

Bathurst Business Chamber President Catherine Fitzsimons said the chamber was proud support the Buy Local Gift Card Campaign.

“It is really important that we support our local businesses, particularly during these dry times the region is currently experiencing. We hope that the success the program has achieved over the last few months continues well into 2020,” she said.

The cards can be redeemed at 129 local shops and can be purchased at Al Dente, Bathurst Visitor Information Centre, Books Plus, Cheekii Kidz Boutique, Easy Living Footwear, fifty8GEORGE, John Matthews & Co Pharmacy, Sassy My Style and SportsPower.
