Bathurst artists winners in Waste 2 Art regional exhibition

Nine Bathurst entrants were winners or came highly commended in this year’s Waste 2 Art regional exhibition held in Lithgow.

Waste 2 Art aims to inspire communities to find innovative and creative ways to repurpose, recover, recycle, and upcycle used materials and resources, diverting them away from landfill.

Sixty-seven artworks were submitted to the local exhibition held at BMEC and the winners from 11 categories went to the regional exhibition.

Mayor Robert Taylor congratulated the entrants and said he was impressed with the quality and skill on display.

“The artworks were truly inspiring and highlights the breadth of artistic skill here in our community,” he said.

Highly Commended:

  • Bathurst Pre School Goodstart Gilmour Street – Highly Commended for “Biyang Gidyira, Many Animals”
  • Henry Callan – Highly Commended for “Camping at Easter”
  • Eglinton Public School Stage 1 – Highly Commended for “If it’s Not in the Bin, it’s On You”
  • Julie Lucato – Highly Commended for “Jeb the Bear”
  • Fiona Howle – Highly Commended for “Umbrella- La Nina Made Me Do It”

Winners:

  • Chelsea Stocks won the High School 3-dimensional category with “Jellyfish Junkyard”
  • Julie Lucato won the Community 2 -dimensional category with “Bower Bird”
  • Chantelle Holmes won the Open 3-dimensional category with “You Are Not Alone”
  • Heather Snitch received OVERALL WINNER of the Regional Exhibition with “Plastic Doesn’t Grow on Trees”

The regional exhibition is open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday at the Lithgow Union Theatre, 65 Bridge Street until 7 August, and Bathurst residents are strongly encouraged to go and see the local entries on display!
