Consultation has concluded

Council has prepared a Draft Emissions Reduction Plan for its operations, which is now on exhibition for community feedback. An Emissions Reduction Plan is a key pillar of Council’s Climate Change Response Framework which was adopted by Council in 2020. The Draft Emissions Reduction Plan establishes baseline emissions for FY 2018-19 covering all scope 1 and scope 2 emissions arising from Council activities. It proposes short and long term emissions reduction targets against the baseline year which are underpinned by recommended actions to enable the targets to be met within the target timeframes.

The emissions reduction targets recommended by the draft Plan are:

  • Net Zero by 2050
  • 25% emissions reduction by FY2025
  • 60% (aspirational) emissions reduction by FY2035.

While many of the matters discussed in the report are operational in nature, Council recognises that Climate Change is an important community concern. We therefore invite the community to have their say on the draft Emissions Reduction Plan.

The Draft Emissions Reduction Plan can be downloaded from the Document Library.
