Hartley Conservation Workshop

Across the last weekend of May, Council's Senior Heritage Planner participated in the Hartley Conservation Workshop which was a pilot program brought into realisation by the Association for Preservation Technology International (ATP) in partnership with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) carried out at the historic Hartley village. This hands-on weekend fostered traditional trades, methods and practices all the while conserving an exceptionally significant site.
Currently there is no traditional heritage skills course of its kind on mainland Australia, with Longford Academy available in Tasmania. The aim is to hold workshops on a more regular basis, aiming to attract regional and Sydney-based contractors, university students and heritage professionals, and build relationships within the trades and education industry, as well as with local and state government.
