    At the Ordinary Council meeting on 15 October 2025, Council resolved to proceed to prepare and lodge a Planning Proposal to update Schedule 5 of the Bathurst Regional Local Environmental Plan 2014 to:

    1. Update the legal description of existing heritage items (e.g. Addresses and Lot and DP numbers affected by subdivisions).
    2. Update the names of existing items.
    3. Update the mapping of 8 existing local items.
    4. Remove 2 existing items that have been destroyed.
    5. Add 26 built heritage items, and
    6. Add 3 movable heritage items.

    The Planning Proposal has now been lodged with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure awaiting a Gateway Determination.

    This action is consistent with actions 2.1.2 and 2.1.3 of the Communtiy Heritage Plan 2025-2029.

    On 15th October 2025, Council held a Community Heritage Plan Get Together which was an opportunity for the leaders of heritage groups and heritage stakeholders to gather and learn how to use the Community Heritage Plan 2025-2029 Implementation Plan template.

    It was attended by 12 community members, including one Councillor, discussing together the role of heritage groups in the community, what initiatives they've achieved over time and some recent activities.

  • Talking heritage with students

    The Careers Expo held at the CSU gymnasium on 30 July 2025 saw some 350 students come through the morning session. During conversations about their future career path, students were asked what they love about Bathurst’s heritage.

    This activity responds to action 1.1.4 - Engage with local educational establishments to share and promote the region’s history and heritage.
