Change to Revenue Policy: New Inspection Fees for Underground Petroleum Storage Systems

Councils are now the appropriate regulatory authority for the Protection of the Environment (Underground Petroleum System) Regulation 2019 (the UPSS regulation). Leaking underground fuel tanks have the potential to contaminate groundwater, nearby waterways and lands. To ensure that service stations and other underground fuel tanks are managed in accordance with the UPSS regulation, Council will be implementing annual and follow-up compliance inspections. This is an additional action and cost that has been handed over from the NSW EPA to local government. As such, a change to the revenue policy will be required to offset the cost to council and ratepayers.

The following Underground Petroleum Storage System Regulation inspection fees are proposed as an amendment to the Revenue Policy:

  1. Annual inspection fee: $185.00
  2. Follow-up compliance inspection fee: $106.00

A copy of supporting information regarding this change is attached in the document library.

Submissions can be made through the Bathurst YourSay website project page or directly to Council and should be received by Council by Wednesday 2 June 2021.
