Alec Lamberton Park Concept Design

In July 2019, Council commissioned dsb Landscape Architects to develop a detailed design for the redevelopment of Alec Lamberton Park. dsb Landscape Architects were required to develop the design that included the ideas and desires of the community that was identified from the Alec Lamberton Master Plan Community Consultation Report and the draft 2040 Open Space Strategy Report.

Previous community consultation, which covered both current and proposed future usage for the Alec Lamberton site, resulted in community and stakeholder demand for a multi-use area with recreation and sporting training facilities, plus future vision for the park, calling for the green space to be enhanced.

The following elements from the community consultation process , which reflect majority view and Council’s identified demands for recreational facilities have been included in the concept plan prepared by dsb Landscape Architects.

• Two multi use sports fields with drainage and electronically controlled field lighting
• Automatic irrigation
• Amenities building with public toilets, change rooms and meeting room
• Off street parking/access with lighting
• Passive recreation - seating, shelter, tables, play equipment, general landscaping Ÿ Vegetation plantings throughout to enhance access, viewing and to screen surrounding industrial area
• Landscape “Welcome to Bathurst” Entrance Statement to complement the existing ones on Mid Western & Mitchell Highways
• Provision for passive recreational space, path network, arboretum style plantings

The concept drawing and associated section images for the development of Alec Lamberton Park are attached for review and community comment. A copy of Council’s report presented to Council at its meeting held 16 October 2019 concerning the concept proposal is also attached for information.
